Brunswick Music Festival’s 30th Anniversary

Celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, Brunswick Music Festival is once again lighting up the streets and bringing the beats to one of Melbourne’s most alternative, creative and multicultural suburbs. In the two-week-long, much-loved annual event, the very best music talent – both local and international – are showcased on the grand and grungy stages of buzzing Brunswick.

Kicking off the festival on Sunday March 4 is the iconic Sydney Road Street Party, which closes off the road for the entire day. No cars? No worries. On this unmissable day, Sydney Road transforms into an overflowing parade of sounds, smells and sights to give us Melbourne’s biggest street party.

On six stages, between Union Street and Victoria Street, an epic two hundred artists will bring us various sweet sounds – from soul and blues to gypsy jazz, folk and everything in between. Accompanied by a pavement full of food and market stalls, and a selection of sumptuous beverages provided by the Brunswick Bitter bars, Brunswick’s reputation as a center of creativity and culture will be boosted more than ever before.

The streets will be jam-packed in Brunswick throughout the entire two weeks, featuring live acts from Masta Ace (USA), Benny Walker and All Our Exes Live in Texas. The good times continue with a spectacularly diverse line-up, which includes performances by artist Jojo Abot – whose Afro-hypno-sonic sounds will invite you into a new world of discovery, evolution and raw emotion – and Grace Barbé, who bring us the unique vocals, rhythm, language and culture from the sunburnt Indian Ocean islands of the Seychelles. With a marvelous range of artists, there’s plenty of entertainment and culture to go around.

If you prefer the party scene, head down to the Brunswick Baths for the first ever High Tide Pool Party hosted by the Festival. This afternoon shindig will have you soaking up the sun and the sweet sounds of feature artists such as electro-soul trio Silver Linings and DJ Shio Otani. To top it off, catch a special performance by synchronised swimmers The Eastern Sirens.

With a Songwriting Masterclass and inspiring talks inbetween, Brunswick turns into more than a music festival. It transforms wholeheartedly into a place of inspiration, history and discovery.

We’re going out with a bang at the free closing event on March 8, Music for the People, which features celebratory performances by Saskwatch, Mighty Duke and the Lords, Cool Out Sun, A.YA and Havana Palava. So head down to Pascoe Vale South for the final shindig – an afternoon of local music in the lush surrounds of Shore Reserve. An array of splendid food stalls will be serving up tasty treats all afternoon.

Brunswick Music Festival is not only music to our ears, but it’s good food in our bellies and great times in our heart.

So join us on the 4th March to kick it all off. Take us home, Sydney Road.
