Welcome to Thornbury will have its entire landscape transformed in to a music and arts event called Daybreak Festival, for a full day on February 29. Widely known for its food trucks and food festivals, Welcome to Thornbury will invite attendees into a day of fun dance music curated across 2 main stages.
Headlining the event will be RAMZi, a Canadian artist who Residential Advisor have described her music as “strange sounds and irresistible rhythms, Phoebé Guillemot maps a world that exists only in her imagination.” Joining her is exciting Finnish artist, Sansibar, with new local label Runnin’ Real Records dubbing his sets as “littered with unreleased gems which perfectly balance themes of party and melancholy”.
Supporting will be some of the local favourites in the alternative dance scene. Andy Garvey will be making her way down from Sydney, known for her fun house selections as broadcasted on Boiler Room at the 2018 installment of Pitch Music and Arts. Melbourne locals Millu & Pjenne will be more than welcomed to the Thornbury crowd, as will popular sweethearts, Interstellar Fugitives. Both acts known for their popular sets at big events such as Piknic Electronik and Strawberry Fields. It is good to see event organisers starting to curate diverse line-ups with prominent female artists heading the bill.
Backing up the music, will be various art and visual installments throughout the venue. Welcome to Thornbury’s Greenhouse, usually used for functions and weddings, will be transformed in a ‘chill out’ space hosted by Tribqu. Tribqu is a local club night and radio show that aims to represent people of colour, particularly African people in Melbourne. There will be select food and drink trunks present, but the main focus of Daybreak Festival is the unique alternative dance and art experience.
There will also be market stalls of boutique local fashion brands, showcasing some of the unique threads that Melbourne designers have to offer.

Organisers Runnin’ Real and Espace Noir have also pledged that 50% of ticket sales for two weeks in January will be donated to WWF and Red Cross to help rebuild the devastation from the bushfires this season. What’s better than having a boogie for a good cause?
