Speakeasy at the Barre – Arts Centre Melbourne

If you’ve ever wanted to know what it’s like to party like its 1920, The Speakeasy at the Barre has got you covered.

This pop-up, inspired by Chicago’s prohibition era, comprises of two quirky bars you can visit and a menu of small and large bites that are sure to have you salivating. Hidden behind the Barre Backyard you will find the Drifter bar, serving up Australian and International beers, and some in teapots. The Dragonfly Cocktail Bar is shaking up seven custom-made, discreetly-served prohibition cocktails, inspired by CHICAGO the musical.

So, whether you’re there to see the show or just want to kick back and enjoy the summer weather, The Speakeasy at the Barre is the Bee’s Knees.

This is the final weekend before this pop-up becomes history, so don’t be a wet blanket and get yourself down to The Speakeasy at the Barre for a swell time. You will be saying “Whoopee” before you know it.

Knowledge in your hands, eyes and mind – Arts Centre Melbourne

Do you like art and free things as much as I do? Then Thai-Australian artist Phaptawan Suwannakudt’s multi-sensory installation, Knowledge in your hands, eyes and mind, should be at the top of your list.

Presented as part of Asia TOPA at the Arts Centre, this work explores the history and physicality of a temple the artist has known since her childhood. Visitors are invited to engage with the work through sight, scent and sound, so keep an eye out for this exhibition before it says “smell ya later!”. It’s all you will hear about!

Piknic Electronik – Sidney Myer Music Bowl

If art and food don’t particularly move you then maybe this last event will, literally! This season of Piknic Electronik is nearly over and with only 2 Sunday’s left, there is no time like the present to get to one of the most delectable dance parties ever!

Piknic Electronik, established in Montreal, Canada, is a music festival held one Sunday a month over summer at Sidney Myer Music Bowl, with electronic music at its core. It offers an immersive social experience, with local and international talent that is guaranteed to impress, whether you like electronic or not.

Like any picnic there is plenty of great food and they offer a finger lickin’ good line-up of rotating food trucks each week to give you all the energy you need to dance your ass off!

This season has been a big one with huge names in dance music, including Detroit legend Moodymann, and English powerhouses Carl Cox and Eric Powell headlining in November and December.

Bart Skils, BEC and Dave Clarke are set to put on a gourmet spread of delicious beats in the next instalment, a meal you simply cannot miss. For the final course, Piknic is serving up Peggy Gou, a self-made producer, fashion designer and DJ, who will leave you full for the rest of the year.

Don’t skip your Sunday dinner and fill up on this smorgasbord of sweet treats before it’s too late!
